Allah's signs do not arrive in forms we always expect. They emerge on the horizons of the world — in technology, in nations, in forces that reshape civilisation — and within the human soul itself. The Quran and the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ have described, with remarkable detail, a force that will appear near the end of times: one that spreads across the earth, consumes its resources, cannot be stopped by any human power, and will ultimately be ended only by the will of Allah alone. This is the story of Yajooj and Majooj. And as we look at the world we are building today, the parallels demand reflection.

What follows is not a fatwa. It is not a religious ruling. It is an intellectual and spiritual reflection — placing the words of Allah and His Messenger ﷺ alongside what humanity is now witnessing with the rise of Artificial Intelligence. The similarities are too striking to be dismissed. Whether AI is Yajooj & Majooj, a tool of theirs, or simply a mirror showing us what unchecked human arrogance looks like — only Allah knows. But it is our obligation to reflect.

Yajooj and Majooj (Gog and Magog) are mentioned explicitly in two chapters of the Quran — Surah Al-Kahf and Surah Al-Anbiya. They are described as two vast nations from among the children of Adam, imprisoned behind a great barrier built by the righteous king Dhul-Qarnayn. Every day they dig at the barrier. Every day it is repaired. But when the time appointed by Allah arrives — the barrier will fall.

Notice the key word: مُفْسِدُونَ — "great corrupters." Not merely conquerors or warriors. Corrupters. Their defining characteristic is not conquest but the systematic destruction and corruption of everything in their path — land, resources, civilization, moral order.

After building the great iron and copper barrier, Dhul-Qarnayn himself — the very man who contained them — made a sobering declaration. He did not celebrate. He did not claim victory. He issued a warning that echoes through the centuries.

The phrase كُلِّ حَدَبٍ means every elevated place — every hill, every height, every vantage point. They do not come from one direction. They descend from everywhere simultaneously, with unstoppable force. No corner of the earth is spared their reach.

Perhaps the most striking of all the descriptions — and the one that connects most directly to AI — is the Hadith about water. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ described in vivid detail what will happen when Yajooj and Majooj are released and pass through the land.

الْحَرْثَ وَالنَّسْلَ — crops and progeny. Livelihood and the continuation of human life. AI deepfakes corrupt نَسْل — identity and reputation. AI automation destroys حَرْث — the means of livelihood for hundreds of millions. And AI misinformation poisons the information ecosystem the same way fasad poisons the land — spreading invisibly, destroying from within.

كَنَفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ — like a single soul. An entire civilisation-consuming force, wiped out instantaneously, simultaneously, everywhere at once. Not through warfare. Not through another equal force. Through something so small it cannot even be seen. This is the defining mark of how Allah ends arrogance.

The word جُنُود (junood) means forces, armies, instruments — anything deployed by Allah as a mechanism of His decree. Allah's forces are not limited to angels. Throughout the Quran and Sunnah, Allah uses wind, water, insects, fire, plagues, nations, and events as His junood. The Quran is emphatic: no one knows the full nature of Allah's soldiers until they are revealed.

غَفْلَة — heedlessness. The great regret of those who were warned and did not pay attention. The signs were always there. The Quran described them. The Prophet ﷺ described them. But they were in غَفْلَة — distracted, occupied, not looking. The believer's obligation is the opposite: to look, to reflect, to take account of what is unfolding in the world, and to return to Allah before the moment arrives when looking is no longer useful.
